What Not To Do When Getting Divorced - Charlotte Divorce Attorney

I'm going to give you a couple of don'ts when getting divorced in North Carolina.

One of the don'ts is don't be bitter. The past is the past. It's time to start letting go. The other thing is, don't refuse to communicate with your ex. You have to keep the lines of communication open. Now certainly, you're going to have attorneys tell you "Don't talk to your ex, don't tell them things because they might be recording you." That is very true in North Carolina. As long as one person can sit in the conversation, they can record you. However, it doesn't mean that you can't communicate at all, it just means be mindful of what you're communicating about. One of the other things is, don't forget the good times. There's a kind of natural instinct when a relationship's ending to only remember all the negatives and all the bad things that are going on, but you don't want to forget that there are some good times there. You can focus on those things that might help you in trying to settle your divorce and work out the things that need to be worked out.

I have a whole list of these for you to check out on our website. You can download the PDF and have it there for your reference.
